Retinopathy in Adolescents With Type 1 Diabetes Decreased Significantly in Last Decade

Researchers found a significant decrease in the prevalence of retinopathy in adolescents with type 1 diabetes in the last decade, according to research published in the November issue of Diabetes Care.

From 1990-1994, the prevalence was 53 percent, but dropped to 12 percent in 2005-2009. Researchers analyzed the microvascular complications of 1,604 adolescents aged 12-20.
