New CEO of Lee's Summit Medical Center Suggests Surgery Center Project to HCA

Jackie DeSouza, the new CEO of Lee's Summit (Mo.) Medical Center, is in discussions with the HCA administration about financing construction for a new ambulatory surgery center, according to a Lee's Summit Journal report.

Ms. DeSouza said the center would be majority-owned by HCA (51 percent) and minority-owned by physicians. She said the center will be "key" in recruiting new physicians and surgeons to the hospital staff.

A COO for nine years at Research and Overland Park Regional, Ms. DeSouza hails originally from Washington, D.C. She earned her MHA from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and entered HCA's executive development program after graduating from college.

Ms. DeSouza plans to expand the hospital's cardiology program and add a surgical oncology program focused on breast, gastrointestinal and genitourinary procedures.
