Northwoods Surgery Center (Woodruff, Wis.). The surgery center opened in 2008 and has been performing total joint procedures and offering bundled payments since then. The center is a joint venture between local surgeons and Aspirus Wausau (Wis.) Hospital. It offers care in a wide array of specialties, including orthopedics, ophthalmology, gastroenterology and podiatry. The two-operating room ASC is managed by Pinnacle III. It is also accredited by Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and certified by Medicare.

Orthopedic & Sports Surgery Center of the Fox Valley (Appleton, Wis.). The surgery center has been offering bundled payments since 2011, according to Curt Kubiak, CEO of the center. Opened in 2006, OSI was the first facility to offer bundled payments for knee and hip replacements with Anthem in the country, says Aaron Bleier, the ASC's finance manager. The center's administration decided to offer the option because from a patient's perspective bundled payments provide transparency and ease-of-use.

"We now offer around 60 procedures in a bundled fashion, and we are marketing this program to self-funded employers," says Mr. Bleier. "The bundles allow us to easily compare our costs to what employers have paid in the past and allow them to quickly understand the potential savings in utilizing our services."

The center also offers physical therapy, MRI and orthotics services on-site, and it includes a recovery inn, the nation's first. OSI includes nine physicians providing the full-spectrum of musculoskeletal care, including treatments sports medicine services and joint replacement procedures.

Pend Oreille Surgery Center (Ponderay, Idaho). The surgery center offers patients a cash pay packaged pricing option, which includes facility, surgeon and anesthesia fees. The option is available for orthopedic, podiatry and general surgery services.

"We offer this to patients who are paying in cash whether they have no insurance or a very high deductible plan," says Kris Sabo, RN, executive director of the center.

Opened in 2007, the ASC is Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care-accredited and certified by CMS. The center includes seven physicians. The center also offers colonoscopies.

The Surgery Center at Lutheran (Wheat Ridge, Colo.). The 15,000-square-foot ASC started its total joint replacement program in 2013, along with its bundled payments program. The center's physicians have performed more than 100 successful total knee and total hip replacement procedures since. The surgery center, opened in 2006 and managed by Pinnacle III, includes four operating rooms and one procedure room. It is a joint venture with SCL Health Lutheran in Wheat Ridge and multiple independent physician groups.

The facility is certified by Medicare and accredited by Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. The center's 43 physicians perform surgical services in numerous specialties, such as orthopedics, general surgery, gynecology, ENT and pain management. The center is a member of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, as well as the Colorado Ambulatory Surgery Center Association.
