20 states with the highest, lowest active physicians

Throughout the United States, there were 265.5 active physicians per 100,000 residents, on average, in 2014, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges "2015 State Physician Workforce Data Book."

The following nine states boast the highest number of physicians per residents with an average range between 296.6 and 849.3 active physicians per 100,000 people:

●    Connecticut
●    Maine
●    Maryland
●    Massachusetts
●    New Hampshire
●    New York
●    Pennsylvania
●    Rhode Island
●    Vermont


The following 11 states had the lowest number of active physicians per 100,000 residents with a range between 184.7 and 214.2.
●    Alabama
●    Arkansas
●    Idaho
●    Iowa
●    Kansas
●    Mississippi
●    Nevada
●    Oklahoma
●    Texas
●    Utah
●    Wyoming
