Overcoming awkwardness in patient collections: 3 steps

Collecting payment from patients can often be awkward, but there are steps healthcare facilities can take to move past the awkwardness and ask for payment, according to a blog post by in2itive's Cindy Hastings.

Here are three steps to take:

1. Train your medical staff and give them basic understanding of human psychology and how it factors into uncomfortable or tense situations.

2. Be consistent when it comes to collections and payment policy.

3. Fight awkwardness with awkwardness — state the account balance and amount due and then fall silent.
