The 3 healthcare issues Trump & Clinton should know heading into the election

The Council of Accountable Physician Practices details three healthcare issues the presidential candidates should note as the election draws nearer, according to Healthcare IT News.

Here the three topics:

1. The shift to value-based care. As healthcare transitions away from the fee-for-service payment model, the candidates should highlight how they will align incentives to motivate providers to obtain better outcomes, safety and efficiency.

2. Improve health information technology. While technology provides a wealth of information, the challenge is providers making use of this data to implement real change.

3. Quality measures. The candidates should highlight which quality measures they will use and how the government will identify the high-performing providers.

"It's encouraging that we are making progress in providing a more connected, coordinated care experience for patients that will also improve quality and safety, but unfortunately the majority of patients are still not enjoying these benefits," Robert Pearl, MD, CAPP chairman, said in a statement. "Regardless of the election results, the health of our nation must be a top priority. By bringing these healthcare issues into the political discourse, the leaders of CAPP believe physicians across our nation can begin to embrace those approaches that produce the highest quality and best health outcomes."
