Administrator to Know: Liliana Lehmann of Hallandale Outpatient Surgery Center

Liliana R. Lehmann, MBA (Hallandale Outpatient Surgery Center, Hallandale Beach, Fla.). Ms. Lehmann is the administrator of the Hallandale Outpatient Surgery Center in Hallandale Beach, Fla. The current HOSC location, which opened in 2006, is a 6,400 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that includes two large operating rooms and one minor procedure suite. The center has successfully performed more than 4,000 cases including pain management, orthopedics, hands, spine, ENT, podiatry and plastic surgery. 

Ms. Lehmann has been with HOSC since 2003. "I have been closely involved since this center was just a vision. Therefore, being in charge of developing and then receiving all of the accreditations with 'flying colors' is a great accomplishment," she says. "Establishing and maintaining accrediting body/state licensure standards has been very satisfying. During our initial Medicare accreditation, the surveyor stated that ours were the best policies in her 16 years as surveyor."

Prior to coming to HOSC, Ms. Lehmann as held several management and executive positions throughout her 19-year career, including positions with Axis Management & Billing Services, Pain Consultants of Florida, Mallinckrodt, Nellcor Puritan Bennett and SpaceLabs Medical.

Ms. Lehmann has been successful in developing and implementing financial goals and objectives at HOSC. "By being involved in all aspects of the ASC, I have been able to coordinate, recommend and guide various financial and operational factors in order to achieve the required outcomes," she says. "I oversee cost containment mechanisms, operational structures, staffing ratios, billing and coding practices, etc. We just received our valuation (performed by a national company), and the EBITDA exceeded the national norm."

The team vision of the HOSC staff that is "perceived by patients, physicians and vendors alike" is Ms. Lehmann's favorite aspect of the center. "We are all here to provide excellence, safety, quality, satisfaction, integrity and efficiency. Our patients, physicians and surveyors observed it and mentioned it to us in more than one occasion," she says. Ms. Lehmann notes that patient satisfaction surveys are often in the high 90s.

Ms. Lehmann appreciates that her position as administrator allows her to serve as a liaison between the governing body, the medical staff and all the other employees at HOSC. "I enjoy that I am able to develop, implement, evaluate and monitor HOSC processes and objectives with a focus on the highest quality personal healthcare services to the community in a cost conscious environment," she says.
