Most Healthcare Professionals Still Use Paper Records

Most healthcare professionals are still using paper records despite believing that electronic health records improve patient care, according to a survey reported in McKnight's.

Sixty-three percent of respondents said they spend up to 75 percent on their time on paperwork, and more than 75 percent believe that the Affordable Care Act would increase that amount of time, according to the survey by digital transcription company Anoto Group.

Barriers to implementing electronic health records included the high financial cost, concerns over a potential disruption of care and the belief that paper is currently too embedded in the culture of care, respondents said.
