2.    Healthcare providers maintain confidentiality and trust.
3.    Healthcare providers and patients and families must acknowledge their own set of responsibilities and accountabilities.

4.    Healthcare providers must be keenly attuned to how engaged patients would like to be.
5.    Patient-provider relationships must maintain boundaries.
6.    Healthcare providers must advocate for patients.

8.    Healthcare providers and patients must collaborate in the shared decision-making process.
9.    Healthcare providers must recognize the importance of healthcare literacy.
