What ASCs can learn from Blockbuster

Lessons for ASCs in customer preference, new technology and data can be gleaned from the competition between Blockbuster and Netflix, according to a new report from ASC manager Regent Surgical Health.

Even though ASCs lead the charge in providing cost-effective outpatient surgery, innovation and moving beyond comfort zones is necessary for ASCs to stay competitive. The rise of Netflix phased out Blockbuster's business model, and a similar competitor could disrupt ASCs.

Four ways ASCs can stay competitive:

1. Be aware of what your customers do and don't want.

2. Know that improvement often involves lowering prices to increase value.

3. Be open to new business partners.

4. Understand that innovating may change or affect your ASC's brand.
