Richard Blumberg, MD, was elected to the National Academy of Medicine, one of the highest honors in medicine.
Here's what you should know:
1. The society recognizes physicians who "have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service."
2. Dr. Blumberg was awarded the AGA's William Beaumont Prize in 2012 for his work on mucosal immunology and immune development.
3. He serves as the Jerry S. Trier professor of medicine at Boston-based Harvard Medical School. He is also Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital's chief of gastroenterology and hepatology.
