On Tuesday, the House Republicans advanced legislation to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, according to Aol.
Here are seven key points:
1. While the House GOP voted more than 50 times to repeal some parts of all of the ACA, Republicans are using a special process preventing Senate Democrats from blocking the legislation.
2. President Obama can veto the legislation, but the legislation could allow Republicans to dismantle the ACA if a Republican takes the White House in 2016.
3. In the reconciliation process, the Senate can pass the legislation with a mere 51 votes. Because reconciliation is limited to certain tax and spending measures, the House Republicans cannot use it to repeal the entirety of the ACA. However, they can work to repeal parts of it.
4. In 2010, Senate Democrats utilized reconciliation to pass part of the ACA. Republicans are working to repeal the unpopular parts of the law, which was passed without a single Republican vote.
5. Democrats warn that repealing parts of the law will lead to 15 million fewer insured Americans by 2025.
6. The Joint Committee on Taxation found the legislation would reduce the budget deficit by $44 billion in the next 10 years.
7. The legislation vote was 23-14, with all Republicans in favor of the bill and all Democrats opposed.
