Nurse files sexual harassment suit against 90210 Surgery Medical Center surgeon — 5 insights

A former nurse at Beverly Hills, Calif.-based 90210 Surgery Medical Center is suing center surgeon Kerry Assil, MD, over alleged sexual harassment, according to an ABC 7 report.

Here's what you should know:

1. Paula Rickey, RN, worked at 90210 Surgery Medical Center for five years. She is suing Dr. Assil, who is an ophthalmologist at the center.

2. Ms. Rickey is accusing Dr. Assil of assaulting her. The alleged incident was captured on video. In the video, Dr. Assil allegedly shoves the back of Ms. Rickey's head. She stops and stares at Dr. Assil, who then calls her over and allegedly says, "I know I can do this because you like the abuse."

3. In addition to the alleged assault, Ms. Rickey claims Dr. Assil "exhibited an interest in sexual exploitation of [Ms.] Rickey, and that [Dr.] Assil's sexual desires towards [Ms.] Rickey were a substantial factor motivating [Dr.] Assil's batteries."

4. Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is affiliated with the center. Cedars-Sinai said to ABC 7, "We take great care to protect Cedars-Sinai employees as they do their work, and that means we take complaints seriously, investigate them thoroughly and act promptly."

5. Ms. Rickey feels the investigation was lacking. She said the only person allegedly reprimanded was her. She also claims she was forced to quit.

She said, "They had asked me, 'What do you want? And I said, 'I want to continue my job, and I want to feel safe here, and I want him gone. After that, they accommodated him. They made me work on a separate floor. My work hours were reduced because of that."
