Twenty organizations are pushing for improved clinical trial reporting, according to STAT.
Here are five things to know:
1. More than 90 patient advocates are calling for the National Institutes of Health to address poor clinical trial reporting for human testing of new treatments.
2. A December STAT report revealed many medical research institutions failed to follow the trial-reporting statute.
3. Some institutions failed to report results on time, which puts patients using specific drugs and medical devices at risk.
4. STAT discovered many NIH fund recipients didn't follow protocols, reporting results late or never, 95 percent of the time since 2008.
5. Pharmaceutical companies also often failed to adhere to the clinical trial reporting protocol.
