Virtua seeks CON approval for $1B facility with ASC
Evesham, N.J.-based Virtua, a nonprofit health system, is seeking New Jersey State Health Planning Board approval to relocate Mount Holly, N.J.-based Virtua Memorial Hospital to a new campus equipped with an ASC in Mount Holly. The entire facility costs $1 billion.

Physicians divided on Medicare ACOs' effectiveness in driving cost savings, quality care
A Health Affairs survey of physicians participating in Medicare ACOs claims only 50 percent found the models effective in lowering costs and providing high quality care. However, more than 66 percent strongly agreed their quality care payments were compatible with their personal practice style, as opposed to fee-for-service payment models.

SurgCenter Development pushes proposal for $4.5M ASC in Michigan
Pismo Beach, Calif.-based SurgCenter Development is aiming to increase its ASC presence with a new $4.5 million surgery center in Zeeland, Mich. West Michigan Surgical Center would feature one operating room and two procedure rooms.

Majority of Americans support ACA in new poll
A new Gallup poll found 55 percent of Americans approve of the ACA. It is the first time in seven years the law has had majority approval.

Average compensation for specialists in 2017
The "Medscape Physician Compensation Report 2017" found physicians' overall average compensation totals $294,000, with specialists having an average compensation of $316,000. Among all specialties, orthopedists topped the list at $489,000.

AmSurg turns 25
Nashville, Tenn.-based AmSurg is celebrating its 25th anniversary in April. Over the past quarter century, AmSurg has incorporated 260 surgery center locations in 35 states. More than 2,000 physicians partner with the company.

Lawrence General Hospital opening $56M surgery center
Lawrence (Mass.) General Hospital is putting the finishing touches on its $56 million surgery center, slated to open April 2017. Lawrence General anticipates the ASC will grow its annual procedure numbers.
