The Joint Commission approved the policy and procedure of multidose eye drops in April 2012, according to a MPR report.
An article published in JAMA Ophthalmology found the use of multidose eye drops can reduce healthcare costs for providers and patients. The study found:
• Patients undergoing a single cataract operation saved $283.85
• Facilities saved $330.91 per cataract case
