MedPAC urges physician pay increases: 3 things to know

MedPAC is urging Congress to increase Medicare pay in its 2025 payment update recommendations drafted Dec. 8.

Here are three things physicians need to know:

1. MedPAC asks Congress to increase Medicare payments for physicians by 50% of the Medicare Economic Index increase, according to an article on the American Hospital Association’s website. 

2. Additionally, the commission calls for a non-budget-neutral payment for low-income Medicare services for the physician fee schedule as well as a 1.5% increase to hospital inpatient and outpatient service Medicare payment rates. 

3. The commission will vote on these recommendations in January.
