Here are five statistics on gastroenterologists' plans for Medicare and Medicaid patient care, according to the Medscape Gastroenterologist Compensation Report: 2013.

When asked if they would stop taking Medicare or Medicaid patients:
•    58 percent responded that they plan to continue accepting new Medicare or Medicaid patients and caring for existing Medicare or Medicaid patients
•    30 percent have not decided
•    9 percent plan to stop taking new Medicare or Medicaid patients
•    3 percent plan to stop taking existing Medicare or Medicaid patients
