Here are four gastroenterologists who have died that Becker’s has reported on in 2023:

1. Shawn Ingles, DO, a physician at Ascension Medical Group Valley Gastroenterology in Saginaw Township, Mich., died in a traffic accident.

2. Ward Olsen, MD, professor emeritus of gastroenterology at Madison-based University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, died at 89.

3. Alan Lake, MD, the first board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Hospital, died at 76.

4. Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s former director of the system’s division of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, Raymond Burk, MD, died on May 1 at the age of 80.
