As more cases become approved for the outpatient setting and healthcare shifts towards value-based care, ASCs have become a strategic imperative for hospitals and health systems looking to expand access and enhance patient experience.
Here are 23 hospitals and health systems that have invested in ASCs and outpatient facilities so far in 2026:
1. Orange, Calif.-based UCI Health opened an outpatient ophthalmology center in Brea, Calif.
2. Traverse City, Mich.-based Munson Healthcare opened a new ASC in Gaylord, Mich.
3. New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health’s Peconic Bay Medical Center opened a new $5 million women’s multispecialty center in Manorville.
4. Austin (Texas) Regional Clinic opened a new location in Round Rock, Texas. ARC Greenlaw Specialty includes 17 exam rooms, three procedure rooms, an onsite lab and radiology services.
5. Jonesboro, Ark.-based St. Bernards Healthcare opened its new Hand & Wrist Center on Jan. 15.
6. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health broke ground on a new Advanced Cancer Center and Care Complex in Modesto, Calif.
7.Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital and Boston-based Mass General Brigham launched a joint venture partnership to expand access to outpatient services in Florida, starting with a radiation oncology center that is set to open in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., later this year.
8. Methodist Richardson (Texas) Medical Center opened a new ASC.
9. Saginaw, Mich.-based Covenant HealthCare announced its plans to break ground on a $25 million orthopedic ASC in April.
10. New York state approved demolition of a condemned parking garage at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, a step in advancing a planned $1.1 billion campus overhaul that includes building an ASC.
11. Lansing, Mich.-based UM Health-Sparrow plans to build a $60 million ASC. The project is part of a broader expansion that also includes an $83 million behavioral health hospital. Both facilities are expected to break ground this summer and open in 2028.
12. The Jackson-based University of Mississippi Medical Center opened Colony Park North, a hospital outpatient facility designed to expand access to specialty care and same-day surgery in Ridgeland, Miss., and the surrounding area.
13. Mass General Brigham received approval for an endoscopy-focused ASC in Cambridge, Mass. The state’s Public Health Council green lit a 6,095-square-foot facility which will include three procedure rooms and 10 pre- and post-operative bays.
14. Charleston, S.C.-based MUSC Health and Clemson (S.C.) University broke ground on a 90,000-square-foot medical facility that will include an ASC.
15. WVU Medicine United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, W.Va., broke ground on a 62,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center.
16. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho-based Kootenai Health and Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare are set to break ground on a medical campus with an ASC. The Prairie Medical Campus in Post Falls, Idaho, will include a medical office building with an ASC, clinical offices, lab services and cardiology care
17. Princeton, Ind.-based Deaconess Gibson Hospital reopened a renovated outpatient procedure center near its hospital campus. The center includes two operating rooms and was originally constructed as an outpatient surgery center by Princeton Surgery Center, a group of 11 physicians. Hospital leaders also said a gastrointestinal quick-care center is expected to open in the coming weeks to provide additional services for patients in the area.
18. New York City-based NYU Langone Health opened a new ambulatory and radiology practice location in Riverhead, N.Y.
19. Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health opened an ambulatory endoscopy center in Ogden, Utah.
20. Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System submitted a CON application to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services for a new ASC.
21. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health announced plans to open four new clinics in Summerville, S.C. Team members held a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 5 with the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce. The clinics will offer OB-GYN services, general surgery, bariatrics, maternal-fetal medicine and primary care.
22. A planning commission recommended approval for Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente’s plan to build a new ASC and medical office building.
23. Port St. Lucie-based Florida Coast Medical Center announced plans to expand its outpatient capabilities with an ASC later in 2026. 17. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Southeast Orthopedic Specialists opened a new ASC in St. Augustine, Fla., expanding access to musculoskeletal care in the region
