Physician practice consolidation showed no signs of slowing in the first quarter, with ophthalmology, radiology, and cardiovascular specialties drawing the heaviest dealmaking activity as acquirers pushed aggressively into the Sun Belt and mid-Atlantic markets.
The move follows a trend of physician practice acquisitions. Between 2019 and 2023, the share of physician practices owned by hospitals, health systems or other corporate entities jumped from 39% to 59%, while physician employment by these entities rose from 62% to 78%, according to a December 2025 report from the Progressive Policy Institute.
Here are the 33 deals Becker’s reported on in the first quarter:
1. After seven weeks of mediations, Minneapolis-based University of Minnesota, Fairview Health Services and M Physicians reached a 10-year agreement extending and strengthening a 30-year partnership set to expire at the end of 2026.
2. Statesville, N.C.-based Iredell Health System added Carolina Specialty Care to its network. The practice, now operating as Iredell Carolina Specialty, includes four specialties and eight providers. It joins the Iredell Physician Network.
3. Strategic Radiology, a national coalition of radiology practices, added Green Bay, Wis.-based Radiology Chartered to its network. Radiology Chartered is a physician-led radiology practice with 15 members.
4. Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health acquired Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging, an outpatient radiology company with 12 locations across the Las Vegas Valley.
5. Summit Spine & Joint Centers acquired Savannah (Ga.) Pain Management and Savannah Pain Center. The acquisition includes an interventional pain management practice with one clinic and one ASC.
6. Tampa, Fla.-based Physician Partners of America acquired the patient base of Crespo Injury Care Center and added Ariel Crespo, MD, to its network of interventional pain specialists.
7. National diagnostic imaging company RadNet acquired Fort Myers, Fla.-based Radiology Regional and its 13 locations in the region. Radiology Regional provides outpatient diagnostic imaging services in Naples, Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Port Charlotte and Sarasota. Financial terms for the deal were not disclosed.
8. Milford (Mass.) Regional Physician Group joined with Worcester-based UMass Memorial Medical Group, effective Jan. 1. Milford Regional Physician Group includes 135 physicians, 113 advanced care providers and 386 staff members.
9. Atria Heart, part of Cardiovascular Associates of America, acquired Phoenix-based Cardiovascular Consultants. Cardiovascular Consultants has provided care in the region for more than 40 years. Atria Heart, founded in 2015, operates under a physician-centered model backed by Cardiovascular Associates of America and now includes 9 offices and nearly 30 physicians and providers.
10. Orlando, Fla.-based Ascend Vision Partners entered the Oklahoma market with the acquisition of three practices. The acquisition includes Oklahoma Retinal Consultants and Sylvester Eye Care & Aesthetics, both in Oklahoma City, and Wise Eye Associates in Norman. The newly affiliated practices include 9 physicians offering advanced retinal, ophthalmic and aesthetic services.
11. Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare acquired Wallinford, Conn.-based Consulting Cardiologists for $3 million. Hartford first filed a certificate-of-need application to acquire the group in October 2025. Consulting Cardiologists comprises 10 locations throughout the state.
12. Millennium Physician Group, a subsidiary of Mosaic Health, has partnered with physician practices in Brevard and Indian River counties in Florida. Through the partnership, Millennium has added eight primary care locations to its portfolio. The practices collectively serve about 37,000 patients.
13. Scottsdale, Ariz.-based HonorHealth finalized its acquisition of 11 Evernorth Care Group, part of Cigna Group, Jan. 2. HonorHealth agreed to acquire Evernorth Care Group in early September. At the time, Evernorth operated 18 clinics in the greater Phoenix area and offered integrated primary care services to almost 80,000 patients. However, HonorHealth only acquired 11 locations.
14. Birmingham, Ala.-based UAB Health System acquired Southview Medical Group, an independent multispecialty physician practice. Southview Medical Group, which is also based in Birmingham, has a network of more than 30 providers offering specialties such as internal medicine, cardiology, infectious disease, endocrinology and gastroenterology. The practice serves more than 51,000 patients and reports 30,000 patient visits annually.
15. Vision Innovation Partners acquired Ophthalmic Associates of Alexandria (Va.). Founded in 2010, Ophthalmic Associates of Alexandria, led by Jacob Clark, MD, provides eyecare and related medical treatments in the Alexandria area.
16. Dermatology Partners acquired York, Pa.-based Bene Dermatology, effective March 2, as part of its Mid-Atlantic expansion strategy.
17. Austin, Texas-based St. David’s HealthCare, part of Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, acquired Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons Feb. 15. The acquisition brings the cardiothoracic and vascular physician group’s clinic operations under St. David’s.
18. Humana is in talks to acquire Sarasota, Fla.-based MaxHealth, a primary care network owned by private equity firm Arsenal Capital Partners’ Best Value Healthcare, Bloomberg reported Feb. 12.
19. Hershey, Pa.-based Penn State Health became the sole owner of the Surgery Center of Lancaster (Pa.). Previously the health system held 60% majority ownership in the ASC.
20. Southlake, Texas-based Retina Consultants of America acquired Montana Retina Consultants, a Bozeman-based retinal care practice that treats retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, macular edema, retinal detachment and vein occlusion
21. Vision Innovation Partners acquired Ophthalmic Associates of Alexandria (Va.). Founded in 2010, Ophthalmic Associates of Alexandria, led by Jacob Clark, MD, provides eyecare and related medical treatments in the Alexandria area.
22. Dayton (Ohio) Children’s Hospital planned to acquire Mercy Health’s pediatric practice and its rehabilitation services in early March, with both locations to be renamed Dayton Children’s as part of the agreement.
23. Pittsburgh-based UPMC has acquired Pennsylvania Gastroenterology in Camp Hill, Pa. The practice, now known as UPMC Gastroenterology Associates of Central Pa., will benefit from enhanced resources and new technologies.
24. Strategic Radiology, a national coalition of radiology practices, added a 14-physician radiology practice in Kentucky. Central Kentucky Radiology, based in Lexington, joined the coalition. With the addition, Strategic Radiology includes 49 independent practices.
25. Charleston, S.C.-based Medical University Hospital Authority, part of MUSC Health, will purchase all membership interests in Palmetto Primary Care Physicians for $111 million, effective March 3. The organization is the state’s largest independent multispecialty care practice and includes 31 physicians, 95 advanced practitioners and 40 medical practices, including physical therapy, urgent care and other specialty clinics across the Lowcountry, Midlands and Myrtle Beach.
26. RadNet has acquired Annapolis, Md.-based Chesapeake Medical Imaging for $29 million. Founded in 2001 by radiologist Mark Baganz, MD, CMI had operated independently for 25 years. The group ran 14 locations, 12 of which are now part of RadNet.
27. Premier Health Partners has acquired Dayton, Ohio-based Digestive Specialists, according to a notice posted on the website of law firm Jones Day, who advised Premier on the acquisition. Dayton-based Premier Health is a nonprofit academic health system serving Southwest Ohio.
28. Winchester, Ky.-based Centerpoint Health acquired the physician practice of Suzanne Pica, MD, and David Andreas, MD, integrating it into its affiliated medical group, Centerpoint Medical Group.
29. The King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services is planning to take control of the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates, the physician practice that staffs George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center.
30. Conshohocken, Pa.-based pharmaceutical services company Cencora signed a definitive agreement with Atlanta-based EyeSouth Partners to acquire its retina business for $1.1 billion. Once the transaction is completed, retina physicians affiliated with EyeSouth Partners will join Concora’s MSO, Retina Consultants of America.
31. Annapolis, Md.-based Vision Innovation Partners has acquired Frederick Eye Institute, a comprehensive ophthalmology practice in Frederick, Md.
32. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Pediatrix Medical Group has acquired Nashville-based Tennessee Maternal-Fetal Medicine. The acquired practice includes four board-certified physicians and six advanced practice providers serving patients across five locations in Middle Tennessee. 33. Atlanta-based EyeSouth Partners has continued its network growth with the addition of a practice in LaPlace, La.The eye care-focused MSO partnered with Aslett-Kurica Eye Center, marking its third affiliation in Louisiana and 69th across the U.S.
