GI leader to know: Dr. John Haydek of Gastrointestinal Associates

John Haydek, MD, is a gastroenterologist at Knoxville, Tenn.-based Gastrointestinal Associates.

Dr. Haydek specializes in treating Barrett’s Esophagus and developing new forms of endoscopic treatment.

His career began after earning his medical degree from Chicago’s Loyola University. He stayed at the university for his internship and fellowship.

Dr. Haydek joined the Center of Excellence at the Thompson Cancer Survival Center to focus on endoscopic treatment of Barrett’s Esophagus while at Gastrointestinal Associates.

He works with Bergein Overholt, MD, to develop new forms of endoscopic treatment. He has also served as the principal investigator in several clinical studies.

Dr. Haydek is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
