The owners and operators of Birmingham-based Hoover Alt MD, Elizabeth Korcz, MD, and Matthew Korcz agreed to forfeit $46,181.79 as part of their plea deal. They are awaiting a sentencing date.

The pair admitted to providing dangerous doses of hydrocodone to patients without medical examination while Dr. Korcz was away from Hoover Alt MD, the DOJ said.

Dr. Korcz was out of state on multiple occasions, yet Hoover Alt continued dispensing hydrocodone from its in-house dispensary, the defendants admitted as part of their guilty plea. No registered nurses or other qualified medical professionals were employed during Dr. Korcz’s absences.
