12 new ASCs in September

Here are 12 ASC projects that were announced or completed in September, as reported by Becker’s:

1. New Castle, Ind.-based Henry Community Health broke ground Sept. 25 on an 18,300-square-foot ASC at its John D. Pidgeon Knightstown (Ind.) campus. The project costs about $17.5 million and is set to open in early 2028,

2. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health is planning to open an ASC at its Pleasanton (Calif.) Care Complex.  

3. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health cut the ribbon on the final phase of its South Asheville Medical Park in Asheville, N.C.

4. Penn Medicine, Independence Blue Cross and Regent Surgical have partnered to develop at least 18 ASCs. The three organizations will form a new company to run the centers, which will be located across Penn Medicine’s service area in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The timing, scope and economic impact of the ASCs will depend on factors including regulatory approvals, community needs and market conditions. 

5. West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 16 for a new multispecialty ambulatory care center in Toms River, N.J. 

6. Arlington-based Texas Health Physicians Group, part of Texas Health Resources, has filed plans to construct an outpatient services and physician practice medical center in Arlington, Texas. The $13.5 million project will be about 55,000 square feet and house Texas Health Physicians Group practices specializing in adult and family medicine, orthopedic services and heart and vascular care. 

7. The Woodlands, Texas-based Blue Cloud Pediatric Surgery Centers plans to open a practice in McAllen, Texas. The announcement comes shortly after the ASC chain applied for state approval to open its first ASC in Massachusetts. The organization also opened its first facility in Kentucky earlier this year. 

8. Atrium Health Denver Surgery Center completed an expansion that added a dedicated endoscopy suite, three preoperative rooms and additional clinical space. 

9.  Independence (Mo.) Surgery Center will open Oct. 14. as the region’s first dental surgery center built specifically to serve Medicaid patients who need dental surgery under anesthesia. The physician-led, single-specialty ASC was created by local dentists to address a shortage of facilities equipped to provide this kind of care, particularly for children who can face monthslong waits for treatment.   

10. Phoenix-based OrthoArizona opened a $25 million, 50,000-square-foot orthopedic center in Glendale, Ariz. 

11. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham (Mass.) is developing plans for an additional ambulatory care building after patient volume doubled in the last 10 years. Hospital officials told the Needham Planning Board the hospital is in the preliminary stages of planning the building.

12. New York City Mount Sinai Health System opened Peakpoint Central Nassau Surgery Center in Carle Place, N.Y., a joint venture with Ridgefield, Conn.-based Merritt Healthcare and a group of its surgeons.
