Cypress Surgery Center to perform free cataract surgery

Wichita, Kan.-based Cypress Surgery Center will perform a free cataract surgery on Leslie Gray, a homeless woman, local CBS affiliate KWCH reports.

What you should know:

1. The surgery center became aware of Ms. Gray after Wichita police organized a fundraiser to pay for her surgery.

2. Center administrator Joyce White called KWCH offering to perform the procedure for free.

3. Ms. Gray is ineligible for rehousing programs because she is blind and cannot work. The surgery could potentially restore her vision to a point she'll be able to work again.
