Bascom Palmer Eye Institute to open 1st international facility

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, part of UHealth – University of Miami Health System, is opening a facility in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, its first international expansion. 

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Abu Dhabi is a 70,000-square-foot ambulatory care center and includes 31 exam rooms and an ocular surface disease laboratory, according to an Oct. 29 news release from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

The center will also have an optical department, a pharmacy, ENT services and a sleep center to expand the scope of care beyond ophthalmology.

David Tse, MD, will serve as the center’s chief medical officer. Nicola Ghazi, MD, serves as the medical director.

Physicians at the center will provide treatment for eye conditions including eyelid and orbital pathologies, retinal diseases, adult and pediatric glaucoma, ocular complications of diabetes, pediatric ophthalmology conditions, neuro-ophthalmic disorders, ocular cancers and inflammatory eye diseases.

The facility is set to open in November 2025, the release said.
