GI physician leader to know: Dr. Roger Charles of Cleveland Clinic Florida

Roger Charles, MD, serves as chair of the department of gastroenterology at Weston-based Cleveland Clinic Florida. Previously, he was regional chief of gastroenterology at Kaiser Permanente Ohio. He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Charles’ clinical interests include general gastroenterology and hepatology, capsule endoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy, spirus enteroscopy, obscure GI bleeding and inflammatory bowel disease. He has won a number of academic awards, including the Dr. Sidney Garfield Physician of Excellence Award, a teaching award presented by Case Western Reserve University Hospital in Cleveland. He contributes to Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and has also authored various abstracts and posters.

Dr. Charles earned his medical degree at University of West Indies Faculty of Medical Sciences in Kingston, Jamaica. He completed his residency at Cleveland Clinic and his gastroenterology fellowship at Case Western Reserve University-University Hospitals of Cleveland.
