Here are 15 ASC projects that were announced or completed in May, as reported by Becker’s:
1. Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health broke ground on a $180 million medical park in Fountain Inn, S.C. The 50-acre Fountain Inn Medical Park will include a four-story, 130,000-square-foot medical office building with more than 200 exam rooms and a 27,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center focused on orthopedic and other same-day procedures.
2. A 79,500-square-foot orthopedic ASC and medical office building opened in Waltham, Mass., becoming the largest facility of its kind in Greater Boston by total footprint. The center is a joint venture of Boston Bone & Joint Institute, Boston Out-Patient Surgical Suites, Boston Orthopaedic & Spine and Pro-Sports Physical Therapy.
3. Construction began on a $50 million medical complex in Latham, N.Y. The complex will house a multispecialty ASC with four operating rooms, orthopedic urgent care from Capital Region Orthopedics and ophthalmology services from Saratoga Ophthalmology.
4. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist cut the ribbon on a new five-story ASC and medical office building in Greensboro, N.C.
5. Eugene (Ore.) Gastroenterology Consultants will open a new 34,000-square-foot clinic and ASC.
6. West Palm Beach, Fla.-based DISC Surgery Center at Palm Beach opened June 25 and is providing outpatient spine, orthopedic and interventional pain procedures.
7. Mankato (Minn.) Eye Doctors opened MED Surgical Suites on Adams Street in Mankato. Physician partners Emily Birkholz, MD, and Nathan Carpenter, MD said the center was designed to support cataract surgery, eyelid procedures, laser treatments and other ophthalmic services.
8. University of Michigan Health-Sparrow broke ground on a $60 million surgery center in Lansing, Mich.
9. Tulsa, Okla.-based Hillcrest Hospital South cut the ribbon on an outpatient surgery center in Tulsa. The center includes four operating rooms, two procedure rooms and 19 pre- and post- operative bays.
10. SCA Health, Englewood Health and physician partners cut the ribbon on the Precision Surgery Center of Englewood Cliffs (N.J.).
11. The Green Mountain Care Board unanimously approved a freestanding multispeciality surgery center in Hartford, Vt. The Upper Valley Surgery Center will have four operating rooms and provide services including orthopedic, spine, gynecological and urologic procedures.
12. Camden, N.J.-based Cooper University Health Care is planning to build a $300 million multispecialty outpatient campus in Gloucester Township, N.J.
13. The Medical University of South Carolina opened the first ASC for heart care in the state.
14. Bonneville Surgery Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, cut the ribbon on its new facility. The facility provides services including general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, OB/GYN and plastic surgeries.
15. NYU Langone announced plans to build an academic medical center in Melville, N.Y. The New York City-based system also plans to open ASCs in Patchogue and Manhasset, N.Y., later in 2026. The projects were disclosed as part of the health system’s broader expansion strategy in Long Island.
