California has seen the arrival of several new ASCs as healthcare organizations look to expand care in the state.
Here are eight new ASCs in California so far this year:
1. In June, Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Health opened its 48X Complex, one of the largest outpatient surgery centers in the nation. The four-story, 268,000-square-foot, $589 million facility features 14 operating rooms, 59 recovery bays, 96 exam rooms, 14 private recovery rooms and 19 clinical treatment rooms.
2. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health started construction on the Sutter Advanced Neurosciences Complex at Mission Bernal in San Francisco. The $442 million, 129,000-square-foot facility will include a neurology services, neurosurgery and an on-site ASC. The center is expected to open in 2028.
3. Lestonnac Free Clinic opened a new free-of-charge surgery center in Orange County, Calif., in May. It is the first free surgery center in the U.S. Volunteer surgeons provide services such as hernia repairs, cataract surgeries and colonoscopies, among other procedures.
4. Newport Beach, Calif.-based TriasMD announced plans for a DISC Surgery Center in California in March. The 12,000-square-foot facility will expand access to outpatient spine surgery, orthopedics and pain management.
5. San Diego-based Scripps Health announced its plans for an ambulatory facility in San Marcos, Calif.
6. In March, Swedish real estate developer Skanska signed a contract with Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health to convert a 60,000-square-foot office building into an ASC and specialty clinic. The new ASC will total 20,000 square feet, while the specialty clinic will total 40,000. The facility will feature four operating rooms, three procedure rooms, a full sterile processing department, and spaces for multiple programs including orthopedics, podiatry and ENT.
7. UCSF Health opened a $60 million, four-story outpatient center in Burlingame, Calif. The outpatient facility houses a cancer care center, radiology services with MRIs, PET scans and other imaging.
8. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health announced its plans to construct a flagship campus in Emeryville, Calif., that will feature an ambulatory care complex and a new medical center with 200 beds. The new ambulatory complex will feature outpatient clinics offering neuroscience, rheumatology, pulmonary, dermatology and non-chemotherapy infusion.
