GI physician leader to know: Dr. Sanjeev Arora of UNM Hospitals

Sanjeev Arora, MD, is a practicing gastroenterologist at UNM Hospitals’ Center for Digestive Diseases in Albuquerque and the director of Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes). He is also a tenured professor of medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque.

Dr. Arora focuses on gastroenterology and hepatology. He led the development and implementation of the Hepatitis C Disease Management Program at UNM Health Sciences Center. He also developed the Project ECHO model as a platform for service delivery, education and evaluation. He is also a program chair for the Annual Update and Review of Internal Medicine Conference.

Dr. Arora attended Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India, where he earned his medical degree. He completed his residency at Safdurjung Hospital in New Delhi, India; Maimonides Medical Center in New York; and Sisters of Charity Hospital, State University of New York in Buffalo, N.Y. He completed his GI fellowship in New England Medical Center in Boston.
