GI physician leader to know: Dr. Michael Gavin of UNM Hospitals Center for Digestive Diseases

Michael W. Gavin, MD, is a gastroenterologist as well as an assistant professor in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division at the University of New Mexico. He presently serves as the director of colorectal cancer research at the UNM Hospitals Center for Digestive Diseases. His clinical interests include gastroenterology, colorectal cancer prevention as well as inflammatory bowel disease.

He is the recipient of several awards including the Outstanding Fellow of the Year award, Teacher of the Year award, Outstanding Consultant Faculty Award and Stellar Consultant Award for 2001 among many others.

Dr. Gavin received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He went on to complete his residency from Methodist University Hospital in Memphis and completed at fellowship at the University of New Mexico.
