GI physician leader to know: Dr. Michael Arvanitis of Monmouth Medical Center

Michael Arvanitis, MD, is section chief of colon and rectal surgery at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J., a Barnabas Health facility. He was named president of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He previously served as president of the medical and dental staff at Monmouth Medical Center. He is a fellow of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons and American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Arvanitis has a professional interest in laparoscopic and robotic surgical treatment of colon and rectal cancer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and diverticulitis. His research work has been published in prestigious journals, such as Clinical Oncology News and Annals of Surgery. He has also served on Public Relations Committee and Membership Committee of the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons.

Dr. Arvanitis earned his medical degree at Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York and completed a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
