GI physician leader to know: Dr. David Alpers of Washington University at St. Louis

David Hershel Alpers, MD, is the William B. Kountz Professor of Internal Medicine in the division of gastroenterology and co-director of the Center for Human Nutrition at Washington University School of Medicine at St. Louis. His hospital affiliations include Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Alpers clinical interests include nutrition/malnutrition, small and large intestinal diseases, inflammatory bowel disease and general gastroenterology. His work has been published in a number of professional journals, such as The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Current Opinion in Gastroenterology and Gastroenterology. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine.

Dr. Alpers completed his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston and his residency and fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
