GI physician leader to know: Dr. Catherine Frenette of Scripps Health

Catherine Frenette, MD, is the medical director of liver transplantation at La Jolla, Calif.-based Scripps Health. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in gastroenterology, internal medicine and transplant hepatology.

Dr. Frenette focuses on liver transplantation to treat cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, autoimmune hepatitis, viral hepatitis, acute liver failure and end stage liver disease. She also provides treatments for liver problems, including primary biliary cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, primary sclerosing cholangitis and hemochromatosis.

Dr. Frenette’s work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, such as Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, The New England Journal of Medicine and Liver Transplantation.

Dr. Frenette completed her medical degree at Rush Medical College in Chicago and her residency at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego. She completed her GI fellowship at San Diego-based Scripps Clinic.
