GI physician leader to know: Dr. Carl Stamm of Carolina Mountain Gastroenterology

Carl P. Stamm, MD, founded Carolina Mountain Gastroenterology in Hendersonville, N.C., in 1992 and currently serves as its president. He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the NC Medical Society.

Dr. Stamm is affiliated with Pardee Hospital, where he is a member of the O.R. Committee, and Park Ridge Health, both located in Hendersonville. He also has privileges at Transylvania Regional Hospital in Brevard, N.C. He focuses on gastroesophageal reflux, constipation, hepatitis C and irritable bowel syndrome. His work has been published in journals, such as The American Journal of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Stamm joined the United States Army in 1976 as a medical student. He has served in Maryland, Georgia, Hawaii, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Iraq with the army and has held positions such as chief of internal medicine service and clinical director of gastroenterology. He served as gastroenterology consultant to the Surgeon General of the Army in theatre for Operation Desert Shield/Operation Desert Storm.

Dr. Stamm earned his medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, after which he completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
