The approval was issued April 9 by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, Huntington News reported April 25. The university has already begun recruiting new GI professors.
Ahmed Sherif, MD, a fellowship-trained gastroenterologist with 20 years of experience, has been named division chief.
Uma Sundaram, MD, vice dean of research and graduate education at the school of medicine and a practicing gastroenterologist, has grown the research and academics of the division with research studies and clinical trials, according to Huntington News.
The three-year fellowship will welcome its first cohort in July 2021. Wesam Frandah, MD, will serve as the program coordinator.
