Gastroenterologist to know: Dr. Jack Wands of Brown University Alpert Medical School

Jack R. Wands, MD, is the director of the gastroenterology division and Liver Research Center at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence, R.I. He is also the Jeffrey and Kimberly Greenberg-Artemis and Martha Joukowsky Professor in Gastroenterology and a medical science professor.

Dr. Wands’ clinical interests include hepatitis B and C, insulin receptor, molecular biology and the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma. He has published over 400 peer-reviewed manuscripts and contributed to 56 textbooks. He has also received 100 U.S. and international patents related to investigative hepatology work.

Dr. Wands earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and completed his residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore. He also underwent his gastroenterology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
