1. Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, parent company of the country’s largest ASC chain, United Surgical Partners International, inked a deal to sell three hospitals in South Carolina to Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health for $2.4 billion.
2. Optum, the parent company of ASC chain SCA Health, had its three most expensive deals in 2023 total more than $10.2 billion.
3. Two major healthcare real estate firms, Milwaukee, Wis.-based Physicians Realty Trust and Denver-based Healthpeak Properties, announced plans to merge in a deal valued at $21 billion.
4. Walmart expressed interest in purchasing majority ownership in ChenMed, a chain of primary care clinics that has been valued at several billion dollars.
5. AmSurg agreed to buy ASCs held by Envision for $300 million plus a waiver of loans after Envision filed for bankruptcy.
6. CVS Health completed its acquisition of primary care organization Oak Street Health in an all-cash, $10.6 billion deal.
7. Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health and Nashville, Tenn.-based healthcare services company Surgery Partners signed a collaboration agreement in which Surgery Partners will take over management of Intermountain’s existing ASCs in Utah and Idaho and will develop more ASCs in other select markets.
8. Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente inked a deal to acquire Geisinger Health and its more than 1,700 physicians.
9. CVS Health completed its acquisition of Signify Health in a $8 billion transaction.
10. Amazon completed its $3.9 billion acquisition of primary care company One Medical.
