Dental anesthesia can generate additional revenue for some anesthesia groups, but for most practices, it isn’t a lucrative opportunity, according to Anesthesia Business Consultants President and CEO Tony Mira.

1. Volume and payer mix for dental anesthesia services can significantly vary from day to day.

2. Most payers recognize and pay for dental anesthesia, but billing for dental anesthesia can be somewhat complicated.

3. Dental cases aren’t likely to help practices diversify or capture additional market share.
