A transesophageal echocardiogram may be performed to help diagnose heart or blood vessel diseases or conditions, to guide cardiac catheterization or to prepare a patient for surgery, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
Anesthesia providers might also perform these other services involving TEE:
1. Doppler echocardiography, pulsed wave and/or continuous wave with spectral display
2. 3D rendering with interpretation and reporting of CT, MRI, ultrasound or other tomographic modality with image postprocessing under concurrent supervision — not requiring image post-processing on an independent workstation
