Dr. John Vargo to Serve as Principal Investigator of Evolution Esophageal Fully Covered Stent Clinical Trial

John Vargo, MD, MPH, chairman of gastroenterology and hepatology at the Cleveland Clinic, will serve as the principal investigator of a Cook Medical clinical study of the removability of the new Evolution Esophageal Fully Covered Stent.

The prospective, single-arm clinical study will involve up to 15 sites across the U.S. and include 130 patients.

The study will examine the possibility of removing the self-expanding stent after the treatment of malignant and benign strictures. The study will also serve as an evaluation of the device’s use in esophageal conditions, including leaks, perforations, fistulas and strictures.
