The new program includes surgery simulations including trocar placement, scleral tissue manipulation, lens manipulation and bimanual manipulation of the eyeball, the statement said.
New York City-based nonprofit Orbis International is deploying the VR programs for cataract surgery in some residency training programs and prospective digital training hubs to measure its effect on surgical skills.
Traditional ophthalmology teaching includes classes and operating room observations, the statement said. FundamentalVR’s technology is expected to be a solution for remote, socially distanced learning.
