Vision Innovation Partners has opened the Maryland Vision Institute Surgical Center, an ophthalmology ASC in Frederick, Md. The Annapolis, Md.-based eye care platform announced the opening Nov. 2.
The ASC handles only outpatient eye surgery. It offers cataract and lens implant surgery, refractive surgery and LASIK, glaucoma surgery and some ocular cosmetic procedures. The facility has an operating suite and separate recovery areas for patients before and after surgery.
The surgery center is VIP’s latest step in the area. Earlier this year, the company acquired Frederick Eye Institute and opened an ophthalmology clinic at the same location.
“Frederick is an important and growing market for VIP, and this investment builds on our efforts to strengthen our presence in the region,” said Chris Moore, CEO of Vision Innovation Partners.
Mr. Moore said that adding surgery to the company’s existing clinical services gives its physicians and patients a more complete care offering.
Dr. Husain, a comprehensive ophthalmologist at Maryland Vision Institute, said having the clinic and surgical center in one location will make care more seamless for patients. Jennifer Knopp, RN, director of surgical services, said the team designed the operating and recovery spaces for safe, efficient care.
VIP and the local chamber of commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting at the center Nov. 3.
VIP was founded in 2017 and has more than 155 providers across Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Gryphon Investors backs the company.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
