Femtosecond Laser Technology May Provide Alternative to Corneal Keratoplasty

Ophthalmologists may be able to successfully use femtosecond laser technology for intracorneal ring implantation — as an alternative to keratoplasty — in patients with advanced keratonconus, according to a Healio report.
Researchers tested 98 patients with keratoconic eyes, and tested for visual, refractive, aberrometric and corneal biomechanical outcomes through one year postoperatively.

Primary coma decreased significantly; visual acuities and spherical and cylindrical errors improved up until one month after surgery.
