Lawrence Memorial Hospital plans $16M ASC, outpatient expansion to raise revenue

Medford, Mass.-based MelroseWakefield Healthcare outlined plans to build a $16 million ASC on the campus of its North Medford, Mass.-based Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Wicked Local Medford reported.

The single-story, 17,500-square-foot ASC comes as the hospital looks to expand its cost-effective, outpatient services to combat financial hardships.

Construction is scheduled to begin in one or two years after the state and local review processes are completed.

MelroseWakefield cut almost all the inpatient beds at Lawrence Memorial last year. Adding outpatient surgery would both serve patients by providing quick, quality surgeries, and would increase efficiency for the hospital, said Steven Sbardella, MD, CMO of MelroseWakefield.
