11 new ASCs in September

Here are 11 ASCs that were announced, constructed or opened in September, as reported by Becker’s:

1. Albany (N.Y.) Med Health System broke ground on an expansion at Greene Medical Arts in Catskill, N.Y., that will include a same-day surgery center. 

2. Bon Secours Mercy Health, Compass Surgical Partners and local physicians opened an orthopedic ASC in Newport News, Va. The 20,000-square-foot Coastal Virginia Surgery Center features four operating rooms and will offer total joint replacements, orthopedic procedures for the upper and lower extremities, as well as spine and pain management services,

3. West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health opened a new ASC in Old Bridge, N.J. The facility began seeing patients Sept. 29.

4. Lafayette, La.-based Cardiology Specialists of Acadiana opened a 10,000-square-foot outpatient heart and vascular surgery center.The ASC offers diagnostic cardiac catheterizations, peripheral interventions, pacemaker and defibrillator insertions, angiograms and angioplasty.

5. NYU Langone Health opened an ambulatory practice in Commack, N.Y. The 18,000-square-foot center provides services including cardiology, orthopedics and urology.

6. St. Louis-based SSM Health is set to open a new outpatient campus in Sun Prairie, Wis. The 90,000-square-foot facility aims to expand access to eye care through outpatient eye and orthopedic surgical services.

7. HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is investing $116 million to expand its campus in O’Fallon, Ill. Construction of a new outpatient surgery center, diagnostic imaging center and medical office building is underway. The facility will have four operating suites, two additional procedure rooms, six post-anesthesia care rooms and 16 prep and recovery stations. 

8. Portland-based MaineHealth plans to invest $70 million to develop an orthopedic care hub that includes a surgery center.

9. New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian opened NewYork-Presbyterian The One, an outpatient center in White Plains, N.Y. 

The 225,000-square-foot center will provide care across more than 90 specialties and subspecialities, including cardiovascular, ophthalmology, gastroenterology and orthopedics.

10. Two plastic surgeons, Oren Tepper, MD, and Evan Garfein, MD, opened Greenwich Street Surgical, a membership-based surgical facility in New York City. The 6,000-square-foot center, developed by a healthcare real estate team with experience in hospitals and ASCs, features three operating rooms, private pre- and post-op bays, an anesthesiology team and concierge-style recovery services.

11. An 80,000-square-foot multispecialty ASC has been planned in Hoover, Ala. Construction on the South Haven Surgical Plaza will begin in December, with completion anticipated by March 2027.
