Portland-based MaineHealth plans to invest $70 million to develop an orthopedic care hub that includes a surgery center, MaineBiz reported Sept. 11.

About $20 million will go towards a freestanding ASC, the report said. It will be 14,000 square feet and include four operating rooms, the report said. It will also have two procedure rooms and 16 pre- and post- op bays. Kelly Elkins, MaineHealth’s COO, said in the report that the surgery center is slated to be up and running in 2027.

MaineHealth has invested $20 million for a three-story office building, and another $30 million will support renovations at an existing building that will bring together MaineHealth’s orthopedic specialty practices.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
