University Gastroenterology, Providence College partner for Colon Cancer Awareness Month

Providence, R.I.-based University Gastroenterology partnered with Providence College Athletics to raise colon cancer awareness.

Here’s what you should know.

1. University Gastroenterology was the presenting sponsor of the men’s basketball game March 3.

2. Providence Basketball Head Coach Ed Cooley will be featured in a public service announcement promoting colon cancer awareness throughout March along with University Gastroenterology physicians.

3. Mr. Cooley said, “I think it’s the right thing to do if you are a public figure and you are trying to help other people. It’s just the right thing to do. It takes 5 minutes and if you feel you can help somebody and help the cause, it’s why we are all here.”

4. University Gastroenterology President Thomas Sepe, MD, said he hopes the PSA reaches and encourages more individuals over the age of 50 to schedule a colon cancer screening.
