Here are five notes:
1. The LIBERATE Study is evaluating the long-term safety and effectiveness of the next generation of the Eclipse System, a vaginal bowel-control system, for the treatment of fecal incontinence.
2. An earlier study conducted at UAB, called the LIFE study, found that an earlier version of the Eclipse System could successfully control fecal incontinence.
3. The 12-month, national, multicenter LIBERATE Study will examine the next generation of the Eclipse system and further investigate its efficacy.
4. Holly Richter, PhD, MD, director of the division of urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery at UAB, is the national principal investigator of the LIBERATE Study.
5. UAB Hospital is one of 15 centers in the United States that will participate in the trial and it is expected to enroll 150 patients.
