Dr. Hawn currently serves as director of the division of gastrointestinal surgery and vice chair for quality and clinical effectiveness at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons. She serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and American Journal of Surgery.
Dr. Hawn has a professional interest in laparoscopy, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernias, achalasia, gallstones, hernias and cancer of the gastrointestinal junction.
